This is the tracker we sell. The unit pushes into the OBD2 port that every US vehicle has carried since 1996. Fitting a van takes about ten seconds.

For a pest control round or a plumbing crew, that is usually the whole decision. Updates run as fast as every three seconds and alerts arrive by text or email. Support is free for the life of the product.

Where it stops is scale. There is no ELD certification, no dash cam and no driver scorecard. A trucking fleet or a fifty van operation needs a platform below.

Right answer under about twenty five vehicles. Wrong answer if you need hours of service compliance.

Best full platform

Verizon Connect is less a tracker than a full analytics platform. That is both the appeal and the catch. For a fleet past twenty five vehicles the breadth genuinely pays.

The dash cams give drivers real time feedback when they are distracted, following too closely or drowsy. Back at dispatch the same footage shows where coaching would actually help.

Video is also the strongest defense against a staged accident claim. For a fleet of any size that is a real annual cost.

Buy this if you have someone whose job is to use it. A five van operation will not touch most of it.

Best driver scorecards

Teletrac Navman tracks vehicles, assets and drivers on one platform, and leans hard on analysis rather than raw location. The driver scorecard is the part fleets actually use.

Around it sit maintenance scheduling and live dispatch routing. Both aim at squeezing more hours out of the same vehicles.

Pricing is the frustration. Nothing is published, so every comparison starts with a sales call. That ends with a figure you cannot check against anyone else's.

Worth a quote if driver behavior is your main problem. Get two other quotes before you sign.

Best for hours of service

Apollo ELD exists for one reason: hours of service compliance under the FMCSA mandate. If you run commercial drivers, that is not optional.

Around the logging sit the usual fleet features. Live location, driver performance review and route planning across three countries.

One thing to know before you compare. A GPS tracker is not an ELD, and only a registered device satisfies the mandate. Check the FMCSA list rather than a vendor claim.

The right shape if you need logging. Overbuilt if none of your drivers keep a logbook.

Best maintenance data

Samsara's strength is what it reads off the engine. Fault codes, fuel burn and service intervals feed maintenance schedules. A van then comes off the road on your terms, not on the roadside.

Compliance is covered too, including the ELD mandate and interstate IFTA reporting. The platform also integrates widely with third party systems.

The catch is commercial rather than technical. Contracts are enterprise shaped, which for a very small fleet means paying for a structure you will not use.

Excellent if unplanned downtime is what actually costs you money. Expensive if it is not.

Best for cold chain loads

Fleet Up is the specialist pick here, aimed at fleets carrying perishable goods. Temperature and humidity monitoring is the reason to look at it rather than a bonus feature.

For food, pharmaceutical or floral loads that matters commercially as well as legally. A logged temperature record is what settles a rejected delivery argument.

The rest is a competent fleet platform: live location, driver behavior monitoring and maintenance alerts. Sensors are separate hardware, so budget beyond the base tracker.

Buy it for the sensors. If you are not hauling anything perishable, look elsewhere.

Best for trailer fleets

This one replaces a tail light rather than sitting beside it, which solves the problem every trailer has. There is no battery to charge because the lamp circuit does the powering.

For a trucking or moving company that matters when trailers pass between trucks and drivers all week. The trailer reports wherever it is, whoever is pulling it.

Installation is quoted at about a minute on a standard harness. The unit works with several third party fleet platforms rather than locking you in.

Neat answer for a wired trailer. Useless on anything without a light circuit.

Best for unpowered assets

The Linxup solar tracker answers the hardest tracking problem a contractor has. Trailers, dumpsters, mowers and attachments carry no power, and a battery unit on those means a recharge round.

A solar panel removes that job entirely. The unit is rated at least IP66 for weather and mounts with magnets or screws. The housing is made to live outdoors year round.

Read the update rate before you assume it is live tracking. Linxup reports every five minutes while an asset moves, and every three hours in standby. That suits equipment rather than vehicles.

Sold direct through Linxup rather than a marketplace, with a monthly fee per device. Contract length changes the hardware price, so ask about the termination terms.

The right tool for a yard full of unpowered kit. Not a substitute for a vehicle tracker.

Best magnetic option

A hockey puck sized magnetic unit from LandAirSea that runs up to four weeks on sixty second updates. That combination is unusual, since fast reporting normally costs battery.

Because it is magnetic rather than wired, it moves between vehicles in seconds. For a fleet with more vehicles than trackers that flexibility is worth a lot.

Features cover the ground you would expect. Boundary crossing alerts, speeding reports, trip history and low battery warnings, SIM included.

Fast and flexible. A subscription is required, so read the plan terms before you order.

Best dash cam evidence

When a damage claim lands, the useful question is whether your driver was at fault. A dual facing camera answers it in about ninety seconds instead of a fortnight.

The Drive 360 records inside and outside the cab in high definition, with night vision. Footage feeds into the Rhino platform alongside location data.

Cameras raise their own questions with drivers, more than location tracking does. An inward facing lens belongs in the written policy, not sprung on people mid shift.

The strongest single defense against a staged claim. Also the hardest sell to your drivers.
