SpaceHawk GPS Review: Hands-On and Tested
I tested this device myself, and this review covers both what I liked and where SpaceHawk falls short, so you can decide if the tracker fits your needs.
One thing to know up front: SpaceHawk is my own brand, and GPS Tracker Shop is my store. That is exactly why I test it harder than anything else I sell. Nobody wants to put a cheap tracker on a boat, ATV or work truck only to have it fail when it matters most, and my name is on this one.
So I ran SpaceHawk through a real week of use on one of our supply trucks. This review covers the pros, the cons, and who the device is and is not right for. Let's get to it.

SpaceHawk Mini GPS Tracker
Magnetic, waterproof and ready in minutes. Live updates as fast as every 3 seconds on iPhone, Android or the web, with free phone support and a lifetime warranty.
What Is SpaceHawk?
SpaceHawk is a mini, portable GPS tracker that mounts on a vehicle or asset you own. The built-in magnet lets you attach it to an ATV, a work truck or a teen driver's car in seconds, and then follow where it goes and where it has been. Track vehicles you own or manage, and you are on solid legal ground. For anything involving a vehicle you do not own, check your state's rules first.

There is no wiring, no installer and no port to plug into, which is what makes a tracker this size so flexible. If size is the main thing you are shopping on, our roundup of the smallest GPS trackers shows how SpaceHawk compares with the tiniest units on the market.
Here are the specifications that matter, taken from SpaceHawk's own product listing:
- Price: $39.95, normally $89.95
- Location updates: Every 3 seconds to every 3 minutes, set in the app
- Battery: Rechargeable, 1 to 3 weeks in normal use, 3 to 6 months in standby
- Mounting: Built-in magnet, no wiring or OBD port
- Weather: Waterproof, IP67 rated
- Coverage: 150+ countries
- App: iPhone, Android and any web browser
- Alerts and history: Geofence alerts, live map and route history
- Plans: $19.95 a month, or $9.95 a month on a 2-year prepay, no contracts
- Warranty and support: Lifetime warranty and free phone support
Testing the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker
I judged SpaceHawk on the three things that decide whether a tracker is worth keeping: how well it stays put, how accurate the location is, and what happens when you need help.
Magnetic Mount
The magnet is the headline feature, and the magnet earned the attention. I stuck the tracker under one of our supply trucks and drove it around town for a week. Two things stood out. First, the tracker never came loose, not over potholes, speed bumps or a highway on-ramp. Second, the signal held up even mounted low under the frame, where GPS bounces off the road surface.
Unlike trackers that need an OBD2 port, such as the Vyncs or MotoSafety units, you can place SpaceHawk in spots a plug-in device simply cannot reach. Our OBD2 vs portable GPS tracker comparison covers that trade-off in detail, and our guide to the best GPS tracker with magnet shows where magnet trackers fit best. The two short videos below show the magnet mount in action.
GPS Accuracy and Mobile App
You view the data through the SpaceHawk app or a web browser, which is standard for live trackers. Setup was genuinely quick. Activating the device, choosing a data plan and getting live tracking running took me about two minutes. The same account works on iPhone, Android and any computer, so if you would rather not install anything, the browser login does the same job. The app also stores about a year of location history, which is useful for reviewing where a vehicle has traveled.
On accuracy, SpaceHawk performed near the top of the portable trackers I have tested, ahead of the Tracki and Spytec GL300 in my runs. Even mounted under the vehicle, positions landed within a few feet of actual. If your goal is knowing where a vehicle is and where it has been, this device delivers that reliably.

Technical Support
Not everyone is comfortable with tech, so I tested the support line too. No chatbots: a real person picked up after about a three-minute hold and walked me through the geofencing setup without any runaround. There is also an FAQ section with video tutorials for visual learners.
That live phone support is a real edge over the GPS companies that offer only email and make you wait a day or two for a reply. Support is free for as long as you own the tracker, and every SpaceHawk carries a lifetime warranty.

Pros and Cons at a Glance
No tracker is perfect, and SpaceHawk has trade-offs worth knowing before you buy. Here is how the strengths and the compromises stack up.
-
Pros
- High-strength magnetic mount held through potholes, speed bumps and a full week of driving
- No OBD port needed, so the tracker mounts in spots a plug-in tracker can't reach
- Signal stayed accurate even mounted low under the vehicle frame
- Live updates as fast as every 3 seconds, with about a year of location history
- Real phone support with short hold times, not just email or a chatbot
-
Cons
- Requires an ongoing data subscription to function
- Depends on cellular coverage, so rural dead zones or parking structures can interrupt reporting
- Battery life varies with use: frequent 3-second updates drain the battery faster than standby mode
- Battery-powered rather than hardwired, so not ideal for permanent no-recharge monitoring
Who SpaceHawk Is For
SpaceHawk is a strong fit if you want flexible, magnet-mount placement, live updates and real phone support, and you do not mind a subscription.
Because the magnet and battery remove any need for wiring, the same device moves from a car to a trailer to a piece of equipment in seconds. That flexibility is the main reason I reach for SpaceHawk over a plug-in tracker on anything without an OBD port, and on the job sites and rental fleets I have worked with for 15 years, much of what needs tracking has no OBD port at all.

Here is where SpaceHawk fits best:
-
Cars and pickup trucks
Tuck the tracker inside a steel panel or under the frame for theft recovery and trip history on your own vehicle.
-
A teen driver's car
Follow a car your family owns and get an alert when the car leaves an area you set.
-
Motorcycles and scooters
Fix the tracker to a steel part of the frame or tuck it inside a storage compartment where a cell signal still reaches.
-
Trailers
Utility, cargo, horse and boat trailers sit unattended for days. A geofence tells you the moment one moves.
-
ATVs and UTVs
Farm, ranch and trail machines rarely have an OBD port, so a magnet tracker is often the only easy option.
-
Boats and jet skis
The IP67 case handles spray. Mount the tracker inside a console or hatch, since fiberglass will not hold a magnet.
-
Construction equipment
Excavators, loaders and generators on job sites, with standby mode stretching the battery to months.
-
Business assets and tools
Tool chests, containers and high-value gear that moves between sites or sits in a yard.
If you need a no-subscription logger or a permanent hardwired install, look at those categories instead.
SpaceHawk vs Other Popular GPS Trackers
Here is how SpaceHawk stacks up against three trackers buyers often weigh it against. The figures come from each maker's own product page, checked in October 2026.
| Feature | SpaceHawk | Spytec Atlas (GL300) | Tracki Mini | Vyncs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fastest updates | Every 3 seconds | As fast as every second | Every 60 seconds (automatic) | Every 60 seconds (Pro), 3 minutes (Basic) |
| Mounting | Built-in magnet | Magnetic case included | Supplied magnet and clip | Plugs into the OBD-II port |
| Weather protection | Waterproof, IP67 | Weather-resistant case | Water resistant with silicone cover | Sits inside the cabin |
| Battery | 1 to 3 weeks, 3 to 6 months standby | Up to 14 days | Up to 30 days in battery save mode | No battery, powered by the vehicle |
| Plan | $19.95/mo, or $9.95/mo on a 2-year prepay | From $22.95/mo, billed annually | From $19.95/mo | Annual fee, no monthly bill |
Specs and prices are taken from each brand's own website as of October 2026 and may change. Check the maker's site for current details before you buy.
Every tracker in this table serves a slightly different buyer. Vyncs suits drivers who want a plug-in OBD install with no battery to charge. Spytec's Atlas updates faster than SpaceHawk, at a higher monthly price. Tracki and Spytec are worth comparing on subscription cost for the way you will actually use them.

Verdict: Is SpaceHawk Worth It?
There are plenty of solid GPS trackers on the market, and a few genuinely good ones. For a magnet-mount tracker that balances easy placement, fast updates and real support, SpaceHawk earned my recommendation in testing.
After a week on our supply truck, three things stood out. The magnet never let go, the location stayed accurate even under the frame, and when I needed help, a person answered the phone. Those are the three places cheap trackers usually fail, and they are exactly where SpaceHawk held up.
The trade-offs are real, and you should weigh them. You need a plan to see live data, the tracker needs a cell signal to report, and the battery needs charging every few weeks at fast update speeds. If you want the fastest possible updates, Spytec's Atlas reports more often. If you never want to charge anything, a plug-in OBD tracker like Vyncs or a hardwired unit is the better fit.
For flexible tracking of vehicles and assets you own, though, SpaceHawk is hard to beat at $39.95 with plans from $9.95 a month on the 2-year prepay. Move the tracker from your car to your trailer to your equipment as the season changes, and you get one device, one app and one plan covering all of them.
SpaceHawk is my brand, so hold me to this review. Every tracker comes with a lifetime warranty and free phone support, and if something does not work the way this review says, a call to support is the fastest way to get it sorted.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker worth buying? +
If you want a compact GPS tracker that combines real-time tracking with dependable performance, the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker is a strong option. SpaceHawk stands out because it offers:
- Real-time GPS location updates
- A compact, easy-to-hide design
- Instant movement and geofence alerts
- Location history and route playback
- Reliable tracking for vehicles, trailers and equipment
Rather than focusing only on size, SpaceHawk delivers the features most buyers expect from a premium GPS tracker, which makes this SpaceHawk GPS tracker a practical choice for both personal and business use.
How accurate is the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker? +
SpaceHawk uses GPS and cellular technology to provide ~ 6 feet accurate real-time location tracking. Under normal operating conditions, the tracker can pinpoint a vehicle or asset within a few meters, depending on satellite visibility and network coverage. Accuracy is influenced by factors such as:
- Open outdoor environments, which generally provide the strongest GPS signal
- Parking garages, tunnels and heavily covered areas, which may temporarily reduce accuracy
- Cellular coverage, which plays an important role in delivering location updates
For everyday vehicle, trailer and asset tracking, SpaceHawk provides the level of precision most drivers and business owners expect from a premium GPS tracker.
Does the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker require a monthly subscription? +
Yes. SpaceHawk requires an active service plan because the tracker relies on a cellular network to send live GPS data to your phone or computer. Plans cost $19.95 a month, or $9.95 a month on a 2-year prepay, with no contracts. A plan covers:
- Live GPS tracking
- Cloud-based location history
- Instant alerts and notifications
- Mobile and desktop app access
- Ongoing software and platform support
Without an active plan, the tracker cannot transmit real-time location data.
How long does the SpaceHawk GPS battery last? +
The SpaceHawk battery lasts 1 to 3 weeks in normal use and 3 to 6 months in power-saving (standby) mode. Battery life depends on how often the tracker reports its location. More frequent updates provide more detailed tracking but use more power, while longer reporting intervals extend battery life. Typical battery performance varies with tracking update frequency, daily driving or movement time, alert settings, and overall usage patterns.
What can you track with the SpaceHawk GPS Tracker? +
One of the biggest advantages of SpaceHawk is its versatility. Because of its compact size and real-time tracking, the tracker can monitor many types of valuable property. Common uses include:
- Cars and pickup trucks
- Commercial fleet vehicles
- Utility and cargo trailers
- Construction equipment
- ATVs and motorcycles
- Boats and RVs
- Business assets and high-value equipment
Whether you are protecting a personal vehicle or managing business assets, SpaceHawk gives you continuous location visibility that helps you recover property faster if it goes missing.
Is the SpaceHawk GPS tracker waterproof? +
Yes. SpaceHawk is waterproof with an IP67 rating, so rain, road spray and washdowns will not damage it. In my week of testing under a supply truck, the sealed case handled rain and road spray without a problem. On a boat, mount the tracker inside a console or hatch, since fiberglass will not hold a magnet.
How do you install the SpaceHawk GPS tracker? +
Charge the tracker, activate it in the SpaceHawk app and choose a plan, which took me about two minutes. Then attach the built-in magnet to a clean, flat steel surface, such as the frame, a steel panel or a trailer tongue. No wiring, tools or OBD port are needed, and you can move the tracker to another vehicle in seconds.
Who owns SpaceHawk GPS, and is this review independent? +
SpaceHawk GPS is owned by Ryan Horban, who also owns GPS Tracker Shop and wrote this review, so this is not an independent review. That is why the review lists SpaceHawk's cons alongside its pros, and why the comparison table uses each competitor's own published figures, including where a competitor such as Spytec updates faster.
